Middle Cottage, Cornworthy

Sleeps 4

Middle Cottage is located on Abbey Road in the quiet village of Cornworthy. Tucked away from the usual tourist trail we are sure you will find the location peaceful even in the height of the summer. Middle Cottage is over 200 years old and has been entirely renovated to an extremely high standard retaining lots of original character mixed with modern comforts. From the front of the property you have views over fields and the remains of the 13th century Priory. Cornworthy has a pub and there are two riverside pubs within walking distance at Tuckenhay.

Cornworthy lies in the picturesque Dart Valley between Totnes and Dartmouth. There are lovely walks locally and along a beautiful stretch of the river Dart and the beaches of the South Hams are only a short drive away.

Accommodation: The front door opens into the slate-tile lobby with 2 steps up to the open plan ground floor. The kitchen/dining area to the right is well equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, ceramic hob, fan oven and larder fridge as well as microwave, kettle and toaster. (There is a freezer available to guests located in the shed at the rear of the property.) To the left is the living area with 3-seater sofa and armchair centered around the inglenook fireplace. Beyond the fireplace is the snug area with 2 seater ‘snuggle’ sofa and TV with freeview. (The TV is on a pivoting wall bracket so it can be watched from the lounge area or the snug). The stairs lead up from the snug.

Upstairs: Are the two bedrooms and family bathroom. The master bedroom has an oak framed kingsize bed, furnishings and an annex that can easily accommodate a travel cot (please advise upon enquiry if you would like one included). The second bedroom has a standard double and furnishings. The family bathroom has a heated slate tile floor, toilet, basin and bath with electric shower over.

Outside: There are sheltered gardens at the front and the back of the cottage, both with patio areas and tables and chairs so that you can catch the sun at any time of day. Great for enjoying a coffee and croissant in the morning or a cold beer or hot chocolate in the evening. There is space outside to pull up and unload and on road parking just a few yards away.

“We had a wonderful time at Middle Cottage, thank you so much. The cottage is delightful, beautifully done with very comfortable and tasteful decor. The bed is wonderfully comfortable! We walked to the Maltsters – deliious. Kayaked from Dittisham to Dartmouth, back up to Totnes and down to Dittisham again on  a glorious day (our kayak filled your front garden!) We spent a blustery day around Widecombe in the Moor and as we leave are heading to walk around Chagford. This is a lovely spot – we came like Jane and Jim to scout out the area and have fallen in love with Dartmoor so will be keeping an eye out for our own place down here – and may well use Middle Cottage again when we next some exploring. Thank you” Clare and Glen 13-17 June 2018

“Thank you for a lovely stay! wonderful place”  Elizabeth and Roger – June 2018

“Thank you so much for a lovely week. The cottage has everything you need and the welcome basket was very much enjoyed. We have had a busy week exploring the area and found the cottage a delightful place to return to at the end of the day. We shall hopefully be back maybe in the winter to try out the fire! Many thanks”  Emily, Ben and mum – 29 July 2017

“We have spent a lovely week in this delightful and welcoming cottage which is tastefully furnished and very well equipped. The weather has been glorious and we have enjoyed having the stable doorhalf-open, giving a cool and fresh atmosphere. We have been busy, took the ferry from Dittisham To Greenway House; Kingswear Castle Paddle Steamer; steam train/ ferry from Dartmouth ; coffee at Gara Roack; the sea was such glorious blue (thanks for the suggestion) Coleton Fishacre – NT property (Art Deco) ; also visited family. Our first night we lit the fire as it was a little chilly (any excuse!) which added to the cosy feeling; but wasn’t needed any other night as it has been so warm. We hope others get to know of this little gem in a lovely area; off the beated track. Thanks Jane and Jim.” Martin and Claire – July 2017

What a delightful cottage! Thoroughly enjoyed my brief 3 day stay whilst visiting friends nearby. Rustic but modern along with what can only be described as a fantastic fireplace which really must be impressive in the cold winter nights! Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage!” Michael – July 2017

“The four of us enjoyed a relaxed and comfortable stay in your delightful home. It was very fresh and tidy when we arrived and there were lots of little extras which made our stay very enjoyable. Thank you very much” Sarah, Neil, Judith and Gary – September 2015

“This cottage, in its quiet location, is an excellent place to relax, recharge the batteries and appreciate the best of Devon all within a short drive. Plus the tasteful decor and comfortable ambience that you have created makes it a place that “must be visited” again! Thanks” Clive and Sue – 12 April 2015
