The Garden Cottage, Dartmouth

Sleeps 5

The Garden Cottage, Dartmouth is located on Crowthers Hill, a stones throw from the centre of town and the river Dart. Offering well presented and comfortable accommodation spread over 3 floors, The Garden Cottage, retains original features including the traditional copper over in the hallway. A pretty cottage garden offers splendid views of the town and river and with a cosy woodburner in the sitting room this is a lovely holiday cottage to to come back to, whatever the season, after a day exploring this beautiful part of South Devon.

Accommodation:  The cottage can be accessed either via the front door from the road or in via the garden into the first floor. The front door opens into the ground floor hallway. On this level there is the large newly refurbished family bathroom complete with bath, separate shower, toilet and basin; on this floor there is also a small single bedroom as well as a washing machine in the cupboard under the stairs.

Upstairs: The first floor hosts the lounge with dining area, kitchen and the garden is accessed from this level. The lounge diner is a light and airy room with dual aspect windows and great views of the garden. The lounge area has a 43″ Smart TV with catch up and sound bar, two sofas and woodburner, the dining table and chairs are set into the window. The kitchen is at the front of the property and has wooden units and worktops, fridge, electric oven with gas hob and a microwave. From the hallway is the door to the garden and a recess which houses a small freezer and plenty of space for coat hanging and boots.

The second floor hosts the two double bedrooms, the larger of the two has double aspect windows giving fantastic views of the river and garden. The second bedroom is situated at the front of the cottage. Toilet and large stone basin set on an oak vanity unit.

Outside:  The garden at the rear of the property overlooks the town and river and is a delightful suntrap with mature flower beds, seating areas and lawns as well as a decked area at the top with dining table and chairs.

Whilst there is no parking on site it is possible to stop outside to unload. Unrestricted parking commences a few meters away from the property and continues up the road and into Jawbones Hill, it is often easy to find a space here.

Crowthers Hill itself is steep as is the walk up to the parking at Jawbones Hill and the walk from the town centre, so the cottage may not be ideal for those with mobility problems.

“A wonderful week! We feel really lucky to have found such a beautiful cottage with everything we could need. Fantastic days out in and aroudn Dartmouth with our 3 year old. Lovely, lovely, lovely!!” Gabby, Dom and Rohan – 22 September 2018

“A lovely cottage with a great garden to sit in for the last summer sunshine. Liked the views and the friendly ginger cat although a good job we didn’t bring our dog else there would have been warfare on the hill. Was a lovely base whilst we attended reunions and great to wander down to get morning coffee and pastries – that hill is pure exercise!! Was due to stay for the full week but work meant had to cut short – very sad about that as we again. Really enjoyed the views from each room and spent most of our time outside in the garden. Very happy four days” Nicky & Simon – 14-19 September 2018

“Have had a very relaxing time at The Garden Cottage. Everything is very well presented plus extremely well cared for. A bit of slog up the hill from Town but you learn not to do it too often but if you didn’t do that you wouldn’t get the wonderful views!!” Niki – 9-14 September 2018

“Lovely house, lovely weather, lovely surroundings!” Ellen and Eric (From The Netherlands) – 1-8 September 2018

“We had a wonderful stay in your lovely house. This is the fourth time that we have visited Dartmouth – and the best house that we have stayed in so far. Wonderful views, a great location and very comfortable. We enjoyed all our favourite places – Paignton Zoo, Quay West Water Park, a trip up the river to Totnes – and of course a walk to the Castle and crabbing. Many thanks!” Helen, Johnathan, Isaac, Barnaby and William – 25 August – 1 September 2018

“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Garden Cottage! We have been coming to Devon for over 20 years but have never stayed in the wonderful Dartmouth. “We had a lovely stay in the Garden Cottage. We loved walking down the steep hill to Dartmouth Town Centre and loved walking up to the wood, hard parking but a very cosy bed. It was only a quick walk to the Co Op. Hope to see you again, Thank you” Sean, Rach, Emily, Holly & Stanley – August 2018
